Will you donate a sari to help underprivileged women?
We are collecting saris and matching blouses to create 10 sari banks in Gujarat. Women will borrow these items at no cost for occasions like weddings, New Year’s, Navratri, family functions, and job interviews, and will return them to the sari banks after dry cleaning.
Our goal is to collect 2,020 saris in 2020!
Since announcing this Sari Collection Drive at the beginning of 2020, we’ve received an incredible outpouring of interest and support. We are grateful to those who’ve donated so far, and we will keep you informed here with news and updates.
Update as of September 10, 2020: We have collected a total of 789 saris and have shipped all of them to India.
Update as of March 12, 2020: We have collected a total of 600 saris and have already shipped 270 to India.
Update as of February 27, 2020: We have collected a total of 360 saris and 169 blouses. Fifty saris have already been delivered to the first sari bank, opened by Gramshree Trust in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and the remaining items are being prepared for shipment to India in March.
How to Donate
If you or someone you know would like to donate to this cause, see the helpful tips below.
Please keep in mind:
- We can only accept dressy saris in very good condition.
- We prefer and will accept saris with matching blouses, provided they meet the above requirements. (Otherwise, we will purchase matching blouses in India.)
- Please note that any donated items which do not meet the above requirements will be discarded, and no items will be returned to donor.
- Upon request, we can provide letters of acknowledgement to donors stating the number of items received. However, tax receipts with value of items donated will not be provided.
- If shipping, please pack nicely for delivery.
How to donate:
Please drop off or mail your donation to the following address. If shipping, DO NOT add a “signature upon delivery” requirement. If dropping off, leave your package by the garage door.
We request that ALL donors include a note inside your package — including your name, address, phone number, email, and number of items shipped or delivered.
