Join the Fight for Gender Equality & Equity
Gender inequality is a complex issue that is pervasive in cultures and institutions worldwide. While there is no single solution, at Share & Care Foundation, we are committed to addressing and correcting these imbalances. To do so, we must first recognize that not all people are starting with the same opportunities or advantages. This means we must work to compensate for historical and social disadvantages experienced by women and girls. Join us in making a difference and fostering a more equitable society.
Breaking Barriers & Empowering Rural Women Entrepreneurs
Building pathways to financial independence for marginalized women.
The Samridhi Saksham project, supported by Share & Care, was launched to empower rural women by providing them with opportunities to become financially independent entrepreneurs. Each woman is selected from a marginalized community and receives the training, support, and materials needed to launch her own sustainable sewing and embroidery business. This initiative not only fosters economic growth but also instills confidence and self-reliance among the participants.
The “Saamartya – Power of Girls” project, supported by Share & Care, was launched in Kashmir to empower girls as community leaders. This initiative fights gender inequality and reaffirms the belief that girls can do anything. Through leadership training, education, and community engagement, the program equips girls with the tools they need to become catalysts for change in their communities.
Our Approach to Empowerment
Our Women Empowerment Signature Program targets women and girls from traditional, patriarchal communities where gender inequalities are most pronounced. Without intervention, these individuals would have limited opportunities to improve their circumstances, often facing physical or emotional neglect from their families. Our programs, designed and implemented with local NGOs, provide resources and training to empower these women and help them achieve self-reliance.
Empower A Woman TodayMaking a Difference for Women and Girls in India
To combat inequity, we collaborate with highly-vetted local NGOs familiar with the communities we serve. This partnership allows us to develop realistic and sustainable solutions tailored to the needs of women in these areas. Our initiatives include:
- Livelihood Opportunities: We offer vocational training in fields such as computer science and hospitality, complemented by personal finance training, to help women become self-reliant and economically independent.
- Self-Defense Training: We provide self-defense courses to empower women physically and build their confidence in handling dangerous situations.
- Child Sexual Abuse Counseling and Education: Through age-appropriate workshops, we educate boys and girls on personal safety skills, offer support to those affected, and cultivate a safer environment for all.
- Empowerment Training: Confidence-building exercises help women and girls overcome ingrained mindsets of inferiority, fostering independent and self-assured individuals.
- Self-Help Groups (SHGs): We establish grassroots collectives where women can participate in workshops on sustainability, bookkeeping, gender equality, and community problem-solving.
- Digital Literacy: By training women in digital skills, we enable them to access information, share their views, and enhance their participation and rights within society. This training also improves their decision-making power, financial wellbeing, education, and community involvement.
Success Stories
Through our comprehensive approach, we have witnessed remarkable transformations:
Lubna Qazi: Lubna, from Srinagar in Kashmir, was a shy college student who lacked confidence. She enrolled in the Saamarthya Leadership Misaal Program, supported by Share & Care. Through the program, Lubna built her confidence and overcame mental barriers. She volunteered at a boys’ school and orphanage, stepped out of her comfort zone, and now participates in programs as a regional leader, helping others develop their leadership skills.
“I was shy and introverted earlier, but now I could feel that huge confidence, that newborn courage in myself.”
Sabitri Devi: Sabitri Devi is a farmer from a small village who struggled to provide for her family. Through our Women Empowerment program, she received agricultural training, introducing her to new farming techniques, sustainable practices, and financial management skills. As she implemented these practices, Sabitri increased her crop yield and improved her family’s economic situation. More importantly, she has become a role model in her community, advocating for women’s education and empowerment.
“I am determined to encourage my daughter to pursue higher study, and to set an example in my village.”
